With his illustrious publishing of history titles, hear him talk about his books and writing! A session which will discuss history.
Hobart Library celebrates Australian Reading Hour with Heather Rose
Celebrate the Australian Reading Hour with one of Hobart’s award winning authors. Heather will talk about the books that have made the biggest impact on her as a reader and writer – the books that have challenged and inspired her, the books that have held special meaning for her at different times in her life, and the books she returns to time and again.
Celebrate Reading Hour at the Emerton Park Chapel. Listen to special guests read their favourite short stories and poems.
Bats at the Library
Listen to our bedtime story, Bats at the Library, then search for the bats that have taken over our library! Make your own Reading Bat, have a Milo and a cookie and take home some puzzles to enjoy later.

During the week of 17 September Glenorchy Library together with Glenorchy LEARN and Vicinity Centres will be hosting a Book Nook in the Northgate Shopping Centre. The Book Nook will have couches and good quality discards that people can read at the Centre or take home. Each book will have a sticker on the cover promoting Reading Hour and Libraries Tasmania.
On Thursday 20 September at 10am we will be hosting a special Storytime at the Centre.

Silent Reading Party at The People’s Library
Do you find it difficult to carve out time in your day to read? Does life get in the way when you just want to sit back and make a start on your growing to-read list? Sounds like you need to attend a Silent Reading Party! Australian Reading Hour is on Thursday 20 September and we thought it was the perfect time to host a Silent Reading Party and what better venue than The People’s Library! Hosted by Island magazine, Transportation Press, The People’s Library 2018 and Salamanca Arts Centre. We will have drinks on sale and you can BYO food. Find a book and somewhere to sit then get ready to read for 90 minutes in silence and in the presence of other book worms. BYO book or pick one of 113 books displayed in The People’s Library. You can socialise before and after but silence is required from 6.30pm – 8pm.
